18 Dogs Removed From Suspected Puppy Mill By Rescue Group

HILLSDALE (WWJ) – Eighteen dogs found living in awful conditions at a suspected puppy mill in southern Michigan were removed by a rescue group.

Sally Geer, President of Animal Aid of Branch County, says the owner of the mill in Hillsdale agreed to give up the dogs in return for not reporting her to authorities.

But Geer told WWJ’s Zahra Huber that the dogs were in really bad condition:

“Their toenails were curled right back around almost growing into their feet,” said Geer. “Really, really sad – we did lose two of them, two of them had to be euthanized because their conditions were … too much to even try to treat … it wouldn’t have been humane to … mess with them even more.”

Geer says the dogs all had fleas and urine and feces soaked fur. One of them lost an eye.
